Turn Dollar Tree Plastic Fencing into a Farmhouse Lantern

Hey Y’all!

We are so excited about this project!!! Most of the materials are STRAIGHT FROM THE DOLLAR TREE, with the exception of the Paint which you can find at Walmart.

Here’s what you need for this project:

  • 1 OR 2 Plastic Fence Panels from the Dollar Tree
  • St Patricks Day, Box Sign. If you cannot find this sign you could use a block of wood or another sign that is 6×6
  • White Paint (Mine is from Walmart)
  • Brown Paint (also from Walmart)
  • Scissors
  • Sanding Sponge (from Dollar Tree)
  • Paint Brush
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

Start by cutting your panels. You could use the 4 pieces of one panel, or you could use just the end pieces of two separate panels. That is what I did, but it is definitely NOT necessary.

Next, take the sign and remove the sticker and metal hanger.

Paint the inside and sides of the sign brown. (You could paint it any color you want. I chose brown because I like the contrast between the brown and white paint.

Paint each panel you cut white, on the inside and outside. If you want the distressed look like mine, don’t worry about getting full coverage of your paint. Just get it good enough!! If you want it solid white with a perfect paint job, I recommend using spray paint.

Once your paint is dry, take your sanding sponge and rough up the outside of the panels you painted!! Distress as little or as much as you would like.

Take the sides that connect and secure them together. If you used one panel, then you’ll only have one connecting corner. The rest you will have to glue together.

Take the panels and glue them to the bottom of the sign creating a base for your lantern. Once you get all of the bottoms connected to your base, you can go to each corner and secure it together with hot glue. Use your finger protectors so you don’t burn yourself!!

How pretty is that paint job!!! It deserves all the hearts!!!!

That’s it y’all!!! Isn’t this the cutest thing ever??? Style with some lambs ear and an electric candle, Or use a vase with flowers in the center. Do not use a real candle in the middle, because it more than likely WILL melt your plastic!!

We love how this turned out SO DANG MUCH!!!

If you love it as much as we do, can you do us a little favor and…

This is an adorable idea and obviously could be used indoors or out. I do have a question. What did you use to cut the plastic? Thanks and keep up the great ideas.

Going to be honest it was kind of hard cutting those plastic fencing, you could use scissors and Fiskars cutters!
