This honeycomb “Bee Happy” sign was fun to make, especially with my cute helper Finn!

…And part 2!
Here’s what we used:
Dollar Tree: Craft sticks, trim from chunky signs (see image below) wood egg, black chalkboard paint, fabric, wire jute, floral wire, fabric, wood cube, block from Tumbling Tower game, cardboard from the Dollar Tree calendars
Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paints: White Swan
Lowes (or Home Depot) Wood shims
Amazon black letters (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)
Stash: Burlap, bubble wrap (small bubbles)
Walmart: Apple Barrel light and dark yellow paint, metallic gold paint
Lizzy and Erin Custom paint brushes
Here’s the Dollar Tree decorative sign I used for the honeycomb!

Quick note: We are so excited to have these custom paint brushes available to our friends! Just click here for more info.

My first plan was to use both of the signs, but they were too heavy so I used my heat tool to help the glue release, then simply scraped off the hexagons with my scraper. Putting them together made a perfect honeycomb!

I used wood shims to create a surface. These shims are thick on one end and thin on the other.
I hot glued craft sticks to the back to hold the shims together while Finn contemplated having a yard sale. Those price stickers are his favorite part of this whole crafting with mommy session.
TIP: I alternate the ends of those shims to make an interesting surface!

I traced the hexagon trim onto cardboard that came in a Dollar Tree calendar. Finn, on the other hand, has added a sticker or two!

Heads up, y’all. Finn has announced he will indeed have his yard sale, and he’s selling me. At least I have a few $20 stickers! Meanwhile, I cut the cardboard into the honeycomb shape.

Here it is, ready for the next step!

I used light and dark Apple Barrel yellow paints for the background.

We used metallic gold paint on the bubble wrap. Finn was over the whole painting process, so he added more stickers to increase my value.
Meanwhile, I painted the bubble wrap, then pressed it into place to create those little places where bees put their honey.

This is coming out cute, y’all! Just repeat the painting of the bubble wrap process to cover the design.

But wait! What’s a honeycomb without a bee? Let’s make one!

I painted a wooden egg from Dollar Tree with black chalkboard paint.
Next, I added fabric and ric rak to the “body”. (That fabric is perfect for this!)
Then I used floral wire and beads for the antennae.

The wings are shaped with wire jute, with fabric glued to the back.

I’m almost finished with the bee. I added a stinger toward the end, it is just a scrap of cardboard painted black. So cute, y’all!

I thought about leaving the surface natural, but then decided to paint it with Debi’s Design Diary White Swan. I didn’t have to paint the center because it will be covered.

Time to glue on the honeycomb!

The honeycomb and bee are glued on, and I added some burlap and scrabble letters in the middle.

For the hanger, I twisted the checked fabric into a rope and tied knots at both ends. I then hot glued it to the front of my project. It’s lightweight, so it should hold.

And here is the finished project, complete with bee AND stinger!

I’d love to know what you think of this project, so please comment below. I read your comments!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
