Hey y’all, hey! Today we are making a light up project with a gift bag! Y’all might have to try this one.
Check out the video below, or just follow along here on the blog.
Dollar Tree: 8X10 canvas, lights
Walmart: Gift bag (Dollar Tree has some great ones also!)
Amazon: Mod Podge, Scrabble Tiles Click here to check out my crafting essentials (This is an Amazon affiliate link and I may receive a small compensation for items purchased from this link.)
Let’s make it!
I chose the side of the bag that has glitter, and cut the panel out. Then I painted Mod Podge on the canvas.
Next, I placed the design on the canvas and painted Mod Podge over it. For some reason my design began to curl, so I used parchment paper and ironed over it, both front and back and it worked out just fine!
I used a ribbon to add trim to the sides.
Here’s how it looks so far. I’m liking it!
I used a Phillips head screwdriver to punch little holes where I wanted the lights to show through but I think you can get by just fine without holes. Update: After I saw it with the holes punched, I think you might prefer them to be punched only in the headlights and just let the rest be a soft glow. The lights will show through the canvas.
Either way, you can see two lights glowing in the headlights!
I used Scotch tape to add my lights to the canvas.
I glued my battery box on, but made sure I could slide it open and also turn it on and off.
I used red beads for my hanger. Use an even number of beads, just tie a knot in each end and hot glue the end of your twine onto the project. Glue a piece of craft stick over each end for extra security.
Next, I added “merry” in Scrabble letters and some raffia.
I didn’t love the lights after I finished and saw them in the dark! Just use them in the headlights and the rest will be fine behind the canvas.
I hope y’all enjoyed this project! Have you made a gift bag craft? Let me know in the comments! I appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
