Are Y’all ready to power up that iron??? Yeah I wasn’t either, until it was time to craft!! That’s probably the only time you will ever see me using the iron… if it’s necessary for a craft project!
Here’s what you need!
- A piece of wood. The wood needs to be smooth, so sand it really well! I got mine from Walmart. It is a wooden canvas that you can purchase over in the craft section.
- Chalk Paint. I used Waverly Chalk Paint in a light gray color.
- Sanding Sponge
- Your Printed image! You can get your’s free right at this link!
- An Iron
- Mod Podge
To start this project off, I printed out the home sweet home design with my LASER JET printer. Laser Jet prints will work best for this! Before hitting that print button I mirrored my image. I did this right in my printer settings.
I painted the wooden canvas with Waverly Chalk Paint. Just a light coat did the trick. Then, I lightly sanded the paint to make sure it was smooth
Next, I laid the printed design face down on the wooden canvas. I only taped one side, and made sure the edge was folded nicely so that it wouldn’t budge out of place.
The next part really depends on how hot your iron is. You want to use high heat, and the dry setting on your iron. Place your iron over the paper and keep moving it back and forth firmly pressing the whole time. My iron is 18 years old, so I’m not sure the temperature gets to what it should anymore. For that reason it took about 10 minutes of ironing for my design to transfer. Just keep lifting and checking, but be careful not to move the paper.
The longer you apply heat and rub, the darker the ink will be when it transfers to your plaque. Carefully peal up the paper while it’s still hot.
I sealed the whole thing with the matte mod podge. That’s it y’all!! It was super easy to do, and HOW CUTE DID IT TURN OUT?? We love it so much!!!
