Hey y’all, hey! Finn’s birthday is next month and the reptile man is coming. (Yes, I’ve lost my mind! I am afraid of snakes, but I’ll do it for my Finn!) We needed something fun and festive for all the kids, so a jungle themed party background is in the works. It’s an inexpensive way to make any occasion more festive.
Check out the video below or follow along here on the blog and see how easy it is to create one for your special event.
Supplies: Plastic table covers (I bought four packs of each color, but probably only needed two. Dollar Tree has them marked “rectangle” while Hobby Lobby says 54″ X 108″. Just get rectangles, not round, and you’ll be good to go!)
Dollar Tree: Rectangle plastic tablecloths (Hobby Lobby’s are better and also cheaper!)
Hobby Lobby: 54″ X 108″ plastic tablecloths (these are better!)
Let’s make it!
I have this rolling Z garment rack from our boutique, and I’m using it to add my strips to. But you don’t have to have one, just use twine, rope, or something and hang it in a doorway or on the wall. I’m thinking of making some faux boulders to put at the bottom, and maybe some balloons at the top, but we’ll see how all that goes! Be sure to tune in to our Facebook page to see any updates!
TIP: Our friends suggested to use it for a puppet show! You can use any colors, think July 4, Christmas, Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween… the list goes on!
To get long strips, I left it folded lengthwise when I took it out of the package, as you can see in the image below.
I then folded that length in half, and kept folding in half until I had a small area to cut.
I used a small rotary blade to cut the strips. My strips are about 1 1/2″ wide, but you don’t really need to measure, just get them close to the same width.
Once my strips were cut, I fluffed to open them up, folded in half (lengthwise) and then attached them to the pole.
To attach: I put the loop behind the pole, pulled the loop over and forward, and then pulled the ends through it. I also alternated colors; two dark strips to one light strip. I might add some gold strips later.
Just keep adding strips until it is finished!
I found this for the actual tabletop. It’s rustic and outdoorsy looking, just perfect for a houseful of reptiles, right?
Finn is getting excited about his upcoming birthday. As for me, I’m going to be sure ALL those snakes and creepy crawly things make it back to the reptile man’s truck! And Finn has a secret plan…. will see what that’s all about!
Let me know in the comments what occasion you might make one of these for! I appreciate each and every one of you.
Thanks so much for stopping by,
