Hey Y’all,
I am a firm believer that PAINT CAN FIX ANYTHING, in the way of decorating that is. You wouldn’t believe the things that people throw away, or send to the local thrift store. It absolutely blows my mind. There is very little in my house that is “NEW”, but that doesn’t mean that my home looks like half of the things in it were sitting on someones curb waiting to go in the dump, sitting on a dusty shelf at a thrift store, or at a garage sale. Decorating on a budget is one of my favorite things to do.
On one of my recent thrift store trips, I found this incredibly detailed shelf. I knew that with a little love and paint I could bring it right back to life. The best part is that it only cost $4!

When you are shopping around in a thrift store for home decor, don’t let the look of something throw you off. Look for any major imperfections, like cracks, broken pieces etc. If it passes the “is it in good shape” test then grab it and go. This guy was beyond “Dull at First Sight” but the potential and the detail was there so I knew I could turn it into something beautiful!

I chose to use white because I knew it would make the ornate details pop. Then I roughed it up a little bit to let some of the former color peek through. I didn’t obsess about getting the paint in every crack. Leaving the dark in some of the cracks helped the detail to really stand out!

I’m absolutely in love with how my $4 thrift store find turned. It is the perfect addition to my home decor, and it didn’t break the bank!!!

xoxo~ Erin
