Hey Y’all,
I’m going to attempt to provide all of you with a detailed review of the bed we ordered for our bedroom. After searching tirelessly on amazon I settled on the Zinus Platform Bed in Navy. Ordering something as big as a bed online can seem intimidating, I know I felt that way. Hopefully this review will help!!
It was delivered on Halloween. Before we could drag the giant box upstairs we had to get the old bed broken down and clean up the dusty surprise that waited underneath. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to fake it, the truth about the cleanliness of your house will always be exposed the moment you move your giant king-sized bed out of the way! The room was prepped and ready to go so we got the very heavy box up the stairs to our bedroom. By we, I mean my husband, obviously.
The first thing I noticed when he opened the box and we got through the mountains of packing material, was the beautiful color. I was nervous about the color. I tend to keep my big pieces “neutral” and focus on bringing in Color with my accent pieces. That way when I get the redecorating itch, I can change out the accents in a room to bring out the colors I love. I made the mistake of choosing a “rust” colored couch in my living room, and even tho I love it, I’m stuck with the warm tones in my living room until we get ready to buy a new couch. I’m a huge fan of color but often find myself wanting to change things up. Despite all of that, here I was buying a blue bed, which confused just about everyone I told. When we opened it I was blown away by the color. It isn’t just “blue”. It’s textured and has more of a denim feel. The color is dark enough that disguising the inevitable sticky finger stains from my toddler should be a breeze, and the pet hair from my pups should go unnoticed to the untrained eye.
Once it was out of the box I thought we were missing the whole bed outside of the headboard. No, Zinus just has a genius packaging design. The back of the headboard unzips and contains the entire bed inside. How cool is that? That makes it incredibly easy to pack it all up for a move which is a huge bonus for habitual movers like us. We got all of the pieces out and again I found myself asking if that was it. I didn’t understand how it could possibly be sturdy, but the husband was adamant it would be fine.
For you folks who like doing the putting together portion of events, the husband says the wrench that the bed came with is better than any wrench that normally comes with furniture.
Please excuse the random toddler in the video. She helped us with this project, and clearly is the biggest reason we got it done.
It took under an hour to put it together with very little “help” from me. He probably could have done it faster without the entire family being involved. Something else that I think is pretty cool with the design is that the bed slats have velcro attached to them, so they won’t shift and move causing uneven wear on your mattress. Another thing that I was hesitant about was how low the bed was likely to be because it is a “platform style” bed. It isn’t low at all. As a matter of fact, it is probably a couple of inches taller than our other bed that had the box springs under the mattress. It is incredibly sturdy. I did the shake, jump, wiggle test and it didn’t budge at all. The whole family sleeps great at night in it, and the dogs feel like they have a little more room because there isn’t a foot board.
Over all I am more than pleased with our choice. I absolutely love it and I can see us having it for a very long time. It has a beautiful clean design, the color is better than I could have imagined, it is sturdy, higher off the ground than most platform beds I have seen, and the price fit right inside my minimal budget for a new bed. At $214 it is a steal, and because I have an amazon prime account I didn’t have to pay shipping! That is a huge deal when you are talking about ordering something as big as a bed! Also, Zinus sends a series of greeting cards with the bed for you to send to other people. I’m not sure what the purpose of that is, but because I am a hoarder, I kept them. This bed is way different than the beat up rustic style that I’m used to in the rest of my house, but I am beyond excited about it and can already see in my mind the amazing room I’m going to create with the bed being the centerpiece!
I asked the husband if he had any assembly tips for the bed and he did not. He said it was the easiest “furniture” project I’ve ever given him. (Don’t get used to that babe, because I’ll have you rebuilding dressers and drawer tracts in no time.)
I also asked him what his favorite things about it are. His answer.
The Wrench, and the packaging that is clearly labeled “spare parts” so that his wife couldn’t question him about why there were so many bolts left over. Eric thanks you for that Zinus!!
